We’re not doing that again…

Time: 6AM

Location: Sunday pan

Temp: 1c

Lions: MIA

This was our one and only early wake up attempt, we froze, seen no lions, and got stuck behind slow driving tourists. But we did see a honey badger so that was  a slight win.

National Geo hasn’t returned my calls yet…

On our way back out of the pan we do see lion tracks over our car tracks but they are nowhere to be found. Oh well, you cant book them in anyways. We enjoy a wave like ride out to the gate. Whoopy bumps. Some serious bulldust later we start seeing cattle and find ourselves pulling out onto the road to Rakops, our fuel stop for the day.

Matswere Gate

We find a place to refuel that takes card and even get the windows washed. We then have a serious problem.. we rock up to the local bar, as we need to celebrate, we only have 100 pula notes, way to big for change from 2 or even 4 beers for him. We leave empty handed and a lesson learned.

Filled up and cleaned windows, lets roll Leaving empty handed

Motoring north we stop at Motopi for lunch on the river. Some local kids come for a visit and we find there is a large collection of clams in the river. We enjoy a snack of tomatoes, tuna and pickles on cracker. A personal camping favorite.

We finish the drive to Maun and check into our hotel, laundry sorted we hook up to wifi… our phones explode, apparently 6 days in the bush no contact is enough to make moms worry. Oops.  We zip into town for a meal at Marc’s restaurant, which is highly recommend and finish with an early night.
