All eyes are on me as I roll past the heavy metal gate and into Iran, “Here we go, I whisper to myself”

I get out of the car and the first guard approaches, He summons me to the back of the car and makes me open the rear door, I comply. He looks at the wall of stuff. Looks at me, the says “Any alcohol or pornography?” Obviously not. Why I even try. His face shows he is not quite believing me. I prepare for the worst, a full vehicle inspection. This will now take hours at best. He points at my first blue box and I begrudgingly remove it, this was supposed to be a fun day. I open it and reveal! Kilos and kilos of drugs!! Oh no, like that would ever happen. He gets a close-up view of our camp cooking box. Stoves, pots and hell even some pans! Fancy that. He looks back at the car and says close it up, were done.

Best search ever, happy camper I go into the main office and get my stamp, everyone is very friendly, and gives us no issues at all, Pina gets a small chin scratch during inspection and a clean bill and we head back to the car. The car is now the problem, Australia doesn’t have a card for info, it’s a piece of paper which is a yearly bill. A nightmare, but we have to make it work. This is the first time we have hired an agent, and we are told to just wait in the car. With nothing better to do, we grab some tea and cake and sit back and watch The Big Bang Theory. Perfect way to kill the 2ish hours we waited. Some cars had already sat inline for 2-3 days. So come prepared. We run into a slight issue with the paperwork as the Australian rego info is causing issues due to not being a card. We won’t discuss how it got sorted but it got sorted and we get the all clear to move down the hill for the rest of our insurances and permits. This bit took about another 45 minutes before we get a gpd point to go collet our rego plates. Obviously, due to being in this secure area, there are not a lot of photos, plus its stressful to begin with.

Leaving the border post and headed for customs exit

At the police station we get our own set of Iran rego plates. The rivet them on the car and we are off, the whole process takes about 2 hours and they do a vehicle inspection to ensure all is legal. They were friendly and we didn’t have to much trouble here.

Starving its time to eat before we call it a day and look for camp, luckily there are a few places to pick from nearby. We end up down a 4wd track and place ourselves in a nice little valley for the night. We have an early one as everyone is tired and a good sleep will be needed.
