Now its getting good, wea re seeing road signs that say “Iran” finally. Asareh is over the moon excited. I can’t believe we are going to drive our own rig in. and as a bonus we do get some clear weather today. But first, breakfast.

Our goal for today is to reach Dogubayazit, I will not be typing that again, you must remember for the rest of this blog when I say town. LOL. A mere 250kms away. With covid tests in hand we head out. We arrive in town (you know the one) and quickly head to the hotel to unpack and prep for a border crossing, which means in this one, removing all alcohol from the car and any other items that may be deemed illegal. Which we didn’t have. I couldn’t even finish the wine, which was okay since it was terrible. Why did we even bring it?

With that sorted, the hotel manager says we must view the Ishak Pasha Palace, but we are running late and won’t make closing time, which apparently isn’t an issue, he gets on the phone and calls his mate who works there and the hold it open for us. How great is that!

This palace is way up on the mountain behind town looking at Mt Ararat, which we can’t see due to the now clouds and snow that have moved in. An interesting little tour for sure and if you are in the area stop in. it is in overall good condition and has a lot of little rooms to view.

Of course, now we need to eat, and we find a small place to specializes in just soup. They are full  of oil and fat, which is just what the doctor ordered in this cold weather. Warmed up and fueled up we relax the night away while talking about the exciting side of what tomorrow may bring, will we make it in? do we have problems? How long will it take?
