Waking up early we are read to head to Ivano-Frankivsk but first we must stop at a castle for a look around, not more than 20kms from camp we pull into a small town called Khotyn where there is a full on castle/fort in an area with a stunning church next to a lake. But first… let me wash our car as the wheels are shaking like mad from the mud.
Arriving at the gate its hot out, but we get good enough parking to make the heat livable. We walk through the small market of axes and swords, which is a nightmare to ignore let me tell you. But for my safety its best we don’t get a sword, whether it’s a self-injury or Asareh has enough. LOL.
We walk through the fort gates and end up going through a nice path that leads past a classic church and down to the castle, it’s a lot bigger than I thought it would be, upon entry we head straight into the defense area, there is everything here to protect that castle and it is was cool! Moving down stairs though takes a dark turn, all the original torture equipment is still there. And its alarming how people were treated, you would say anything to have them stop once you witness what was to be, or was used on you. Alarming and rather barbaric. Some still in use until WWII.
Upstairs we see how to poop in a castle and that turns the trip around, a good laugh and we also get to see many many items of history. I highly recommend visiting this fort as they even have the old well still in place. As we leave a large group getting married is headed down, a perfect day for it.
Once we hit town we find a place to park the car at the hotel which is great as sometimes the only have under cover. We actually get spotted and a message on our Instagram as someone has seen the wagon.
We finish the night in town at a cherry bar enjoying some sweet wine before calling It an early night.
