No our car didn’t make the cut… Although I would gladly go back if I could take it in again. During our trip we were not able to view the vehicle grave yard, as most has been cleaned up for scrap. But they did have a range of vehicle on display to see and of course all the robots out to view. The biggest attraction for me of them all was the D155W Komatsu dozer that was radio controlled, a very neat setup, that could even work underwater, yet could not stand the radiation and did fail.

The vehicles have all had massive plates added for protection for the initial clean up and later on, not much protection.

Heavy plating for safety

With the robots on display, any missing parts is due to the fact that they were to radioactive to safely put a human near it. All the vehicles are still dangerous to touch or realistically go near, but the amount of radiation has dropped significantly over time.

The Dozer in all its glory is sitting tucked away in the Jupiter factory yard to never run again. A very cool machine to see due to the rarity to begin with. Even with all the sealing this still failing due to radiation is mind blowing. dozers do not have thin metal to protect them to begin with.

And of course the famous “claw” which is putting out large amounts of radiation still due to how it was used during the clean up. I only measured from the outside and did ask about measuring from inside, but they said the had to find a thick piece of cloth to wrap my arm in before I did that, so I sorta bailed on that idea and just left it to the unknown.
