Grey skies all day today folks, and nothing will change for a while. But that okay, we enjoy our Turkish breakfast which was fantastic, and healthy. This allows us to normally run most of the day without having the need for a lunch. Which saves us driving time. Well, except today, today we do lunch.
We stop at a nice little restaurant and order, I get Iskandar, an amazingly delicious dish form Turkey that they then cover is boiling butter, so obviously, only like 50 calories… The waiter sets it down in front of me, tells me its hot in Turkish, I think ya, the food, of course. Then I promptly latch my grubby little fingers onto the plate to slide it closer. Ohhhh boy. But of course, I play it off all cool. Not a problem here. Live and learn.. I even know the word for hot in Turkish so its ridiculous I dropped the ball here.
The wagon also sees first snow! Oooohhhh, better take some photos.
We spend most of the day on the highway until we get to Imranli, this is where we decide to head up over the mountain for camping as it looks good. We start pushing up the single lane road which has clearly been just opened up by the grader, which we also later ran into. We go up and up, there are no trees, the snow gets worse. We reach the summit and figure its best to continue on to see where we get. Although we do let the cat out to stretch his feet, he hates the leash, this leash gets changed soon enough and now we don’t even use a leash as there is no point.
I guess the bonus is that on top the road got wide enough for two cars. But its was nearing white out conditions. It’s been a long time since I did any serious snow driving. 10 years since I left Canada. But we push on with confidence.
Nearing the valley floor, we find a nice little road that dead ends and pull in for the night. Tonight, is the first test of the heater in the tent and it is -5 out. It works! I will live another day. The cat loves it and we hang around outside having a glass of quite possible the worst wine I have ever bought to date. (I add to date, because you just never know) with everyone quickly shuffled into the tent we close it up and enjoy warmth. 10/10 recommend a heater for cold weather camping.
I think getting out of bed will be a problem….
