I would be lying if I said we did not stop for another one of those croissants that are crazy unhealthy before leaving town. So I wont, we did, it was amazing. We did enjoy the morning lazily strolling around town and finally left around 11. With such a late start we have not planned to go very far, and a target for the night is the Tarakaniv Fort, which was used by almost everyone during the wars, From the Ukrains, to the Russians to even the Nazi’s who apparently used it to conduct medical research to build the ultimate soldier. And I will say Asareh was not overly happy being inside and some areas did have odd markings on the wall where it looked like people struggled.
The lighter side of history is they did try to store canned goods in it, but that failed due to condensation issues. So that was some interesting history. We end up camped behind the area for the night, and only after we had setup and sent the drone to snap some photos did we see the old trenches that laid around the area, it is said to be a haunted area due to the history, we must have gotten lucky as we had no issues. I will add though then entry way is a 100 meter long tunnel that is a bit nerve wracking.
We enjoy a fire for the night though and get a good sleep in the morning pack up and move on to a happier story.
The Tunnel of loooovveeeee, a Instagram favorite, well we gotta try this place out. But first, we are hungry and the local restaurant is top notch, even has some cool train tracks underneath it still. Now the tunnel looks stunning, and we thoroughly enjoyed it, but god damn. The bloody mozzies were insane. 10/10 for beauty, 2/10 for ability to stand and enjoy. The side that Instagram never shows obviously. But it was well worth the stop for some fun photos.
In the next town we fuel up, check out an old army tank and I give the wagon a quick was while Asareh enjoys a coffee. Our end goal of today is to get to Zhytomyr for the space museum. On arrival we find a nice river to park up on our of town where a Ukraine soldier approaches and has a small chat and is rather chuffed we have visited his city. And after he left, he return quickly with the Velcro army patch we now have on the headliner of our car. We spend the night with a dog that has visited for pets and have no problems at all camped near the city.
I also may have… gotten a speeding fine. then he asked for my international driving permit, which I don’t have cause I think there a joke. anyways, He wont let me go till he sees it, quickly hop online and find a digital copy that can be sent in 5 minutes for 20 bucks, who cares about the validity, I just need it now. lol I quickly receive the email and present my phone to the police. the are happy with it and let me go with just a fine, 10USD and a loss of about an hour. So I can now check Ukraine off the list for driving infringements.
