The hippos were quite vocal last night, but nothing ever came into view. We have our usual slow removal from the tent, then the snail pace coffee drink. Why not just sit and enjoy the area. Our fellows campers are packed up and gone and we decide that we should actually head out to and see what is about for animals.
You will almost be sick of elephants after this place
Our first sighting, a family of elephants, sadly though one of the babies was born with no tail or trunk. In the wild it will not make it much further than childhood. Although in an alarming turn of events a slow elephant comes running at the vehicle. We sit stunned, but he runs right past us. A little stress for the lazy day is always good.
Flawless posing Look at that smile 🙂
Moving onto Dead Tree island we spot a family of baboons crossing the small salt pans and we made the call to start marking down all the animals we have seen. Doubling back we head for third bridge, a small water crossing on the way as a bonus, we snap a few shots on the bridge and motor back to hippo pool and 4th bridge. Time to pull up for lunch.
Tuna salad and a savannah, lunch of champions. Once again we are sitting off the road and the tourist buses roll by and not an animal in site. 10 minutes later, surrounded. We were even joined by a small family of elephants. They were curious and had a long look as we sat and did some trip planning for our next few days. We feel we have a decent plan laid out.
Back at the camp site we roll out the hammock and enjoy a cold shower. Asareh shuts her eyes for a little nap. Easy dinner of home made soup and we have a guest who sits 20 meters away till 11pm slowly grazing on the good grass. We finish the night with cake (note to self: buy more flavours)
Setup and ready to make a meal
