We hit the road north around 10am, and exit the park, no elephants today. At the exit gate I attempt to refill the tyres. Apparently at 8 years old my ARB fill hose has had enough and promptly explodes. A quick fix and shorter hose later we are aired up and back on route north to Maptuo. We swing through town for a quick stock up and grab lunch on the ocean front. I finally convince Asareh to try oysters… she chose to chew them, still hates them to this day. Probably should have stated you just swallow them.
We have a quick google search and decide that our original idea is just to much driving as we are running out of time to get back to Joburg and park the wagon before returning to work. We select Lugar Do Ceu. The wagon roars to life as I come around the on ramp and merge into traffic, were 3 cars wide, a truck appears in the middle from somewhere… 4 wide on a 2 wide. I step it up to a blistering 67 in a 60… bam nailed by the police. F*ck, alright here we go, he takes my drivers and disappears, now Asareh and me are at his cop car arguing over the fine. Its 1000Mets, 15usd basically. Fine but I want a receipt, in the meantime Asareh is playing with the speed camera, for the final party trick Asareh has the money, he has the license, it’s a Mexican stand off and no one is budging, the officer cracks first and starts the exchange. We’re rolling again.
I’m on a roll for 1 in every country we visit The walk to the beach Get the R&R flowing Pitched up at camp
We pull into the Sugar processing plant and head east towards the beach, the road quickly changes to dirt/mud. After driving through miles and miles of cane fields we hit sand and drop the tyres down a bit. A nice arrival of about 4pm for a quick setup and drink. Straight into the R&R’s. We end up spending 3 nights here, as the management was fantastic, Nico and Monique ran a great camp site. It was completely empty at this time of year. We also went for a great sunset cruise in the ute for a run down to the beach and a great view
On a spare day we headed to El Paso, a Texan themed park for some drinks, nothing beats whipping open the double swing doors to a saloon. A couple of beer and burgers later its time to head back. Very cool place and I suggest you check it out if your in the area.
The drive down You bet I swung through those door like John Wayne
Creepy crawlies: We get our fair share of intersting nocturnal visitors, this night we had a red roman come through.
