The Trip Starts
With an early morning exit we make quick miles out of town headed for Pilanesburg National Park,
PNP for short. We get a bit lost at sun city as you cant enter from that side, so a quick back track finds us at the gate. Our first taste of wild animals on there own. It’s a great drive and we see heaps.
Stopping for lunch (sushi and a beer we had supplied ourselves with earlier) it’s a great sunny day and we look out over the water… are those rocks? Hippos? No heaps of CROCS!! And not the shoes either. Super cool. Still no Elephant yet.
Quick and easy lunch Looking the part
We continue on on a nice enough dirt road that eventually turns to Tarmac and stop at a hide and spot a hippo and our first Elephant we see in the full. Stunning. We luck out and even spot one at the exit gate. Pulling into camp we setup, were down to a 15 minute setup, which is not rushed we both have jobs to do.
I am working at the back door and hear a scream! Oh no, oh wait, all good. Just a monkey in the drivers seat, I see they are highly intelligent creatures.. picking Mitsu. He quickly get shoo’ed away.
We have a nice steak dinner with salad and some G&T to finish the night. Cant beat cooking over an open fire. This is gonna be our life for the next month… or so we thought.
Backgammon is a nightly occurrence
