We take turns driving to make good distance. Pina is not overly impressed with me in the back seat as I want my room to. We reach an agreement sleeping back to butt. Lol.

Night 1 on the road, we find a nice piece of blank land, setup, and for once, no rain. Were on a winner, our little goal is to clean the fridge of booze, not a lot is left, but enough for a fun night where everyone wakes up not feeling like shit.

Our 10pm party is interrupted by headlights, what is going on? This is blank land. BEESSSS millions of bees, the bee keepers have chosen this spot to drop there hives off. Which we figure is fine. No problem. Well it is a problem in the morning when the bees wake up and go where the fuck are we? Anyways I get stung 20 seconds after getting out of the swag. After that it’s a shit show. Even watching the keepers leave last night was a shit show, the grass wet with dew wont allow them to easily leave the slight ditch out. 20 minutes of engines revving. I end up helping in the end.

From here on out its food based, we grab seafood along the way at a lovely ocean front restaurant. Great for photos.

We have a local place in Antalya we stop, great food and massive pide.

Back in Antalya finally we hit up our local pub for Midye which is a mussel stuffed with rice. That is top notch stuff. And of course we do a mangal our by the dam cause why not?

Stop number 1: A stunning field for some sun baking, beers in hand and clothes off, lets enjoy the sun for once. We all got a little burnt. But it was worth the stop.

We follow it up with a neat little suspension bridge that we of course went and jumped on. That’s required.

After all this it is time to visit the fertility cave. The cave that looks like fun. It’s a big hike in, so once again Asareh volunteers as tribute to chill with Pina in the car. And we are off. It’s a solid hour up and down minimum. But the views are great, last time I was here it was empty, today we had some foot traffic so there was a wait to enter. As always, worth the walk for the jokes alone. The view is okay too. It was cooking today though, and the water actually started running low on the return route. I will say this, it was easier to walk now than when ice covered in the winter.

With the hike completed and the sun getting low, which also means more rain, we stop in at the golden eye casino, returning guests of course. We go clean up, and head down for drinks and a bit of fun. Our technique is we just jump machines non stop. Asareh is just pressing buttons like mad for fun, next thing the machine is going crazy, long story short, it paid for the rooms, the fuel and food plus I still have cash from left from a second trip worth of fuel through Bulgaria. Worth it!! They have free drinks and of course smoking. Plus, all meals are free so for the 30 bucks for a room its totally worth the stop even if you don’t gamble as its 5 minutes from the Turkiye border.

After a quick tour in the clouds at an old soviet monument we take switch places and its nap time till we find a place for lunch, which is two reasons, A: we need to eat, B: we need to dry our gear out. Its finally sunny so we stop up and setup for almost 2 hours, till the rain starts to arrive again, at least everything is dry this time.

We head for Plovdiv where we have a nice Airbnb again for the night. We wander some of the bar streets getting drinks as we go before getting some top notch pizza, I think it actually turned into 3 pizzas and 3 bottles of wine in the end. Followed by a comedic walk back to the Airbnb. Yes no photos.. we are by far the worst at this

Once back in Bulgaria we all get passport stamps and even leave a sticker on the building after asking permission. Pina is as per the norm, dead asleep. Today is just a normal drive along the valleys, nothing to exciting happens.

We do make a stop for sausage rolls though. Pulling into camp, the roads are crazy muddy and of course it has started raining yet again. We park the ute as close as possible to the gazebo to ensure the awning nets us some extra square meters to hide in.

With everything sorted Asareh goes to town creating a fabulous mushroom sauced pasta. Fantastic work as normal. We find enough flat are for the tents to go without getting wet and settle info for

But not to miss out me and Suzie make the walk for the waterfall, Asareh has said no way and stays with Pina. In proper fashion everyone we see if wearing the hiking outfit, walking sticks and proper shoes, I on the other hand am here to represent Australia, aka, jeans with thongs and no water. Harden up.

The view is good, the water is freezing, we drink a tester of it, but all the run off has a funky taste. So maybe not the best idea. I think it was about a 5km hike but big elevation gain so prepare for that.

Once back at the ute we grab a bite to eat at the market, some sort of deep fried dough with cheese and meat, was really good but it must be eaten as soon as its ready otherwise it will go rock hard. They were also selling bear meat sausages. Like I said earlier apparently there is a slight bear problem.

Amazingly no photos from camp last night, but that’s okay, cause it was a return to the scary forest as it was on route and convenient for us. And of course we purposely scare each other, so that once the forest does make noises its 10x worse. Great times.

Our first stop is some natural wonders, a lake and some rock that is hexagonal shaped. Overall, not the exciting and a bit of a weird setup. We are here way to early in the season, or morning? There is nothing going on. We at least get a few steps in before moving on.

We make a pit stop in Brasov to print some papers and have an attempt at shopping in a metro, and unlike turkiye, and maybe it was just this metro, nothing is individual, seems its all bulk. So we leave empty handed. But that’s okay, because the next stop is Dracula’s Castle!!!

Well not Dracula, But Bran, as in Brans castle. Right off the bar, parking is easy, right on, off to a good start here. But we quickly start noticing tour bus after bus and bus pulling up. This place is packed. I mean packed, people are pushing to get in, it’s a bit shit that people can’t act slightly civilized. But hey.. my Instagram shots right?

But the Castle itself is worth the trip that’s for sure, tons of history, great write ups to read, and of course even a room dedicated to Dracula and other creatures of the folk lore. Remember folks, if you hear singing in the forest.. don’t follow it.

With a quick restock on the way out we are in no mood to camp. Airbnb baby, We have a nice cabin for the night with heat, hot water and a place to cook meat over a fire. Perfect. The drinks flow till late. In Oz, this would have occurred around the glass table, you know the one.

Our drive today starts quickly, only about an hour out of camp, Cheile Bicazului is our main goal today, and when we get there, its is packed, tour busses, cars everywhere. People all over. Finding parking is a slight challenge. This was to be our big stop for the day, yet we only stay maybe 30 minutes and bail as we are over the crowds, now this valley im sure on a slow day is worth the stop… but on a sunny day. No way.

We meander a bit further down these mountain type roads till we find a lovely spot with wood to camp for the night, we get all setup, relaxed, beer in hand. Nek minnut, police, cant camp here. But of course, they know a place we can, their friends camp site, we head that way. A hole in the wall.. no way so back on the road we go.

But as a winner we do find one of those rides where you go down the track, I am after a family, the guy looks at me and goes, “did you want to go fast” a simple head nod and we wait a little longer, I still caught them by the end. Brakes are for the weak.

Finally we find our camp for the night, a lovely field, we setup, for the second time, and make a small dinner and enjoy a few drinks. As the sun sets, Pina is a bit on edge, he can smell something. So now we are also quiet. Now, Romaina has a slight bear problem, and we don’t see it but we can hear it attacking the local livestock, the dogs are going mad in the village near us. The noises are actually quite alarming, flash lights on, head lights on.

Well, that’s enough of that, record speed pack up. All lights on, we are out of here. We drive into the night a few hours and park up inside a town at the local park. Suzie cracks the shit on setting up a tent 3 times in one day and sleeps in the ute. The swag takes all of 30 seconds, so we sleep well.

We do arrive at camp early, and are straight into chilling, Pina is loving it. We are making a cheese and meat platter board. In the distance we see storm clouds, I am adamant they will not arrive, and I mean im talking like I control them clouds.

Anyways… we get hammered. Heavy rain, hail, winds. Everything is soaked, but in good spirits we make the best of it.

After the rain, it does somewhat clear up, although the area is flooded, but we do find enough high ground for the tent and swag. So with the fire back up and running we sit back for a great dinner while Pina sits at the river contemplating running away to a family that has a permanent house.

Now the whole point of today is the Slanic salt mine, now this place is well known, its Instagram famous, its looks somewhat busy in the photos, and normally for stuff like this we try to be inline at 8am for opening. But we run the risk of arriving to a basically empty place at 11. Perfect. We park up, hop on a bus and head down the decline, around and around and around. We arrive at the gates, nothing is looking to impressive. Asareh has not seen photos of this place even, so over all she is not impressed, I am basically vibrating off my seat. This is just photos, so enjoy. 

You walk though the portal into a massive hall, over 200m long, 54m high. Walls made of, you guessed it, salt.  This is pretty much a look at these phots type setup, you have to see it yourself to understand the immense size.

We spent 3 hours here, and it was worth it, as anyone that knows me, knows that I have a cough.. ongoing. Its shit. Down there, not once. The air is magical. And there is a ping pong table!! We have a few games, buy some salt to talk home and motor on to camp.

Camp is a luck out, we have a river the wraps around camp, now I will say it is still somehow freezing out, so we definitely require a fire to stay warm, but overall its okay. Dinner was Asarehs famous Saffron chicken. And we stay up enjoying a few drinks while Pina enjoys playing the in the tent fly on Suzies tent. We only has a small amount of rain.

These are the good days, I had preplanned a few weeks in advance with a shop owner for a new set of ironman suspension, so in the morning, I quickly headed out while Asareh and Suzie went exploring in the city. We picked up some 300kg constant load leaf springs with foam cell shocks. With the car dropped off I stayed around for a chat with a local doctor, who also was getting some work done. He was generous enough to take me out for lunch and explained some local history, like how one statue is only here cause it was to immediately replace Stalin after the fall of the soviet union. Was a good afternoon. Back in the uber now to catch up with Asareh and Suzie.

Now the photos here are a bit in jumbles, so this is the next 2 days pretty much. We covers the art museum, lots of walking around old town as well, cause there are a ton of fine little places for beer/ cocktails. And a bunch more churches.

A main feature was the royal palace, a massive place with stunning artwork. We did try to get into the worlds largest building, the parliament, but that required bookings and we just didn’t have time mainly as it was spread over days when it was not open to tours and of course we do have a slight time frame to get back to Antalya now that Suzie is here.

Finally at 3:30 pm I can pick up the ute on day 2. It took them ages to do the install, but they did all right quality wise, painted everything and all bolts are still tight. But with out anything in the rear she’s riding high.
