Now that we had crossed into Bulgaria, the architecture has changed immediately, we ar enow in the world of grey cement. And that also means monuments. So lets get into it. After leaving the casino we only had a short drive today, yet it would some how consume the whole day.
Since we have a plan, we slowly wander north, making a few stops for Pina to run around in the nice green grass. It is still raining out on and off but we make do. The one thing I forgot is in black dirt country how slick it gets with rain.. right away my training from Canada comes back and slight course adjustments are made. The one road was just wet clay underneath, we were not even able to stop on a slight slope.
But with out of the way we see a flea market, and tools.. so so many tools, I pick up a 32mm socket for the front wheel bearings and some small light bulbs to fix the lights, we don’t really see anything out that a: catches our eye b: can fit in the car. With a hot dog in hand we bail.
With the weather getting worse we still head into the mountains to go see the Buzludzha building, an old soviet style building which has been left to rot since the fall of the soviet union. Now in true fashion on arrival it began hammering down with rain, so our stop was quick and calculated, darking back and forth between cover. Worth the stop for sure. I would love to see the inside, maybe one day they will open it back up. Heading back down the hill we find a public fountain and in what seems more like more water falling from the sky than the tap I refill our water jugs before heading out.
Our night ends on the lake with a fantastic dinner made by Asareh, we are using our new cooker for the first time, and getting positive reviews on the gas control. Finally, a cooker with good gas control. And Pina has really taken a fancy to the roof liner on the L200…
