Todays back track is from our adventure the Mashad, It was one of the places we just had to hit on our first trip. And was it ever worth it. We start with an adventure on an old 777, it’s a bit rough due to sanctions. But we get there. Of course the airport food is amazing, so that’s always a win win. Its also during Eid once again so I see heaps of the decorations still up.

We arrive at our rental place for the night at midnight, and quickly decide to hit up Imam Reza, the holy shrine between 2 and 3 am, it is still busy, but mostly empty, and under the clouds it looks beautiful, basically ifs its yellow, its gold. The rest internally is glass. Its also massive, Ill provide a link to read up on it. But honestly just a stunning place all around.

Of course, we go back during the day, while it is very busy, I do luck out and get a slip for food as a pilgrim. The meal is amazing and we give our taxi driver the spare meal to take home. As 3 meals will easily feed 4-5 people. One of the interesting things is that during this period, people who prayed and got help, now have to repay the gift, so people inside are giving away chick peas and raisins, or small candies, but our big surprise happened outside of the shrine, ice cream.. 3 bars each. People just chucking ice cream in the car, we are in a taxi, no bigger than a corolla with 6 adults all eating ice cream, people are on laps, but it’s a good time as we weave through traffic.

We also hit the museum up which probably contains more gold and silver than most of Canada combined. Doors, chairs, burial shrines, everything gold and silver.

Our flight back we get to exit through the rear of a plane, first time for that and see the dessert from the plane. I recommend a visit if you get the opportunity. Just the architecture alone is worth the visit.
